Adaptations for Customers with Disabilities
If you have a disability, we or your own Co-op will do all we can to help you adapt your home to help you enjoy a comfortable and independent life. If you live in the Borough of Hounslow small adaptations such as stair or grab rails are provided and fitted free of charge. For more expensive alterations you may be able to apply for a grant, this will depend on your income, benefits, savings and investments. We can assist with grant applications for works such as bathroom or kitchen replacements, stair lifts or hoists. We can also try to find funding for more minor adaptations such as the fitting of grab rails or improving access to your home. Some properties will not be suitable for adaptation; if this is the case we will do all we can to help you find more suitable accommodation.
If your Occupational Therapist recommends that you should have an adaptation fitted to your home we may be able to help. If the work costs less than £500, we or your co-op will consider arranging for it to be done for you. However, our funds are limited so the sooner you let us know the better as requests will be prioritised and depend upon the severity of your disability. If the cost is likely to be over £500 you can apply to your local authority for a Disabled Facilities Grant. Your Occupational Therapist can help you do this. There is no guarantee that you will be awarded funding by the local authority but we will do all we can to help. If you feel you need an adaptation to your home or want more information about the funding available, then please contact us at Homes@coophomes.coop and we will arrange for a member of staff to visit you to discuss what we can do.
Co-op Homes introduced a Disability Equality Scheme in December 2007. You can download a copy of this below. |
