Racial Harassment

At Co-op Homes we take a tough stance on racial harassment. It is a severe form of anti-social behaviour that is unacceptable and we will make every effort to tackle it and make you feel safe in your home.

If you are a victim of racial harassment or a racist incident, please let us help you. Even if the offender did not intend their behaviour to be racially offensive, the fact that you or any other person feels that is means that we will take action.

You should report the harassment or incident to us  contact us in person, by telephone or in writing. We have staff who are trained to deal with racist incidents.  We will provide advice and assistance to help you resolve the problem, and with your permission we will involve the police or the Ethnic Minority Advocacy Group.

Our Commitment to you

Co-op Homes is committed to helping victims of racial harassment. We promise to:

  • Contact the victim within one working day of racial harassment being reported to us
  • Remove racist or offensive graffiti from the victim's or from surrounding properties within one working day of it being reported to us
  • Offer an appointment to discuss the case and confirm the action we are proposing to take within five days of being contacted
  • Contact the victim every 10 working days or a frequency agreed by the victim until the case is closed

Even if you are not a Co-op Homes or Co-op tenant, we act as a third party reporter, which means we can report racist incidents to the police on your behalf.

REMEMBER

CO-OP HOMES WILL NOT TOLERATE RACIAL HARASSMENT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES
