Fire Safety Advice

Fire Safety is a key priority for us at Co-op Homes and the RHP Group.  All our blocks have up to date fire risk assessments which confirm we have appropriate fire precautions in place.  When controls need strengthening or there are actions arising from our inspections, we do what we need to do to ensure your safety and satisfy regulations.

If you live in a purpose built flat and there is a fire in another part of the building, our advice is to ‘stay put’ until you receive advice from the emergency services to do differently.  But, if smoke, heat or flames enter your home and only if it is safe to do so, leave straight away.

If you live in a converted property you are advised to evacuate immediately when you hear the fire alarm. This guidance is in line with that given by the London Fire Brigade – for more information take a look at their website

We ask all of our customers to:

  • Check you have a working smoke detector
  • Remind members of your household about what to do in the event of a fire and practise using your escape route
  • DO NOT leave or store any personal belongings such as pushchairs, bikes or other items in communal areas.

We’ll be checking communal areas to make sure they are clear of items which could cause fire to spread or cause obstruction to residents or emergency personnel trying to leave or access the building. Any items found will be stickered and subsequently removed.

If you would like bespoke advice based on your household and lifestyle, to minimise the risk of a blaze, the Fire Brigade offers free home fire safety visits. To find out more please visit their  website.
